H&R Block

To accompany Jennifer Ford's tale of conquering tax woes, I sketched up some illustrations and stylized typography that fostered an aesthetic for two accompanying stories that were storyboarded and animated by my coworkers.

I traced each item and word three times to achieve that wiggly, lively linework, and animated a lot of the action on screen by hand. This project is why my handwriting is so much better today!

All three videos premiered on Xbox Live and msn.com

Storyboards

These are great examples of how detailed I can get with my storyboards and sometimes how I need to adapt them on the fly.

The client decided they didn’t want the cellphone final video. I had to figure out a new transition from the keyboard to the Profesh’nal Taxe Help during the animation phase and how to still crush that Taxe Shack.

The detail the client really ended up loving was the hand lettered H&R Block At Home®. Clients, understandably, want to keep their brand look intact. But the overly-clean H&R Block logo felt out of place with the rest of the spot. I went a bold route and hand lettered it, hoping they would say yes. I was delighted when they did!
